TC No Froth?

Post by Russ » Mon May 28, 2007 3:00 pm

Made my 4th TC in a row last week

So far all turned out ok and all have produced masses of foam, so to stop spills I add 4 litres of juice and add another ltr. when things have calmed down.

This time I added 200g of Honey (it was set type) I melted this with a bit of juice and chucked it in.

Fermentation off like a rocket but this time no froth at all  , just loads of bubbles, so I've topped up to 5 ltrs.

Do you think the honey caused this?

BTW Yeast was from a Muntons kit (as were the others)

Cheers

Hi DaaB

Not worried just curious as to why the diffrence this time, the previous ones frothed like mad. Wondered if the addition of the honey stopped the foam, IMO if it has this could be an advantage (assuming it tastes good :) )

Ive got 3 TC on the go and the only one that didn't froth was the one made with honey. I thought it was a fault as well but its bubbling like crazy through the airlock.

interesting Q

was yours set honey or runny?

IMO no froth is an advantage, less potential for mess 8)

I never get a yeast head that threatens to escape when doing TC's and that doesnt really change if i use honey or not :?
