Interactive hop chart to find the perfect hop!

Post by orlando » Tue Sep 10, 2013 2:30 pm

As the topic says an interactive hop chart that enables you to find exactly the right type of hop whether for bittering or aroma, even down to which type of oils it contains, some omissions like Nelson Sauvin for example but quite a useful tool.
I am "The Little Red Brooster"

Fermenting:
Conditioning:
Drinking: Southwold Again,

Up Next: John Barleycorn (Barley Wine)
Planning: Winter drinking Beer

For me, I generally go for "more bang for the buck" with bittering hops. After 60-90 minutes and unless I'm told and convinced otherwise your only left with isomerized alpha acids, and no "noticeable" flavour or aroma.

To be honest as home brewers, we're all a little bit adventurous and with the varieties of hops available, most of us tend to experiment anyway, especially with late/steep hops and dry hopping.

Well thank you critch, but to be honest it was one of those serendipitous moments. I was actually looking for some info on just hop varieties and followed a link on a US site and there it was. I'm starting a brew club (inaugural meeting Friday night) and was putting together a list of links and internet resources for new members who either haven't brewed before or are new to it. It's amazing how much stuff I have been introduced to but have never actually produced a list. Maybe I should put it up here and ask for other ideas  .

Why not suggest it to the author, I don't know how long ago this was produced, possibly before he knew about the NZ and OZ hops that are around now, but he may still be interested in updating?

That chart blew my mind.....all a bit too complicated for me. I like to just throw them in based upon experience and see if it tastes any good!
