Brown malt

Brewing tomorrow. Got some freshly picked home grown First Gold hops so I'm looking for a simple recipe.
I'd usually just brew a pale plus crystal thing but I've got some brown malt so I'd like to try it.

Would just brown malt and pale make a decent bitter or do you reckon I should keep some crystal in there too?
Any suggestion on percentages?

Don't hang around. I need to get the grain weighed out this evening for an early start tomorrow.

Brown malt is best saved for a porter IMHO, you could use it in the same way as you would crystal malt for a bitter but I usually make a big porter using 1kg brown, 1kg amber and 5-6kgs pale with around 100gms of something around the 7-8AA mark for about 25ltrs.

Not hanging about, 2 to 3% first time around.
If you play with your water, slightly more alkalinity, ease back gently on the gypsum using calcium chloride instead to soften the impact. If you don't, just go for it, crystal or no crystal.
Without patience, life becomes difficult and the sooner it's finished, the better.

Settled on:

87% Pale
8% Crystal
5% Brown

Eric, I realise it's more than you suggested but I want to taste it, for better or for worse.
No scientific water treatment as such. I brew with unmodified water for darker ales and with a bit of CRS and DLS for paler ales. This one I'll stick somewhere in the middle. Can't be doing with all those complicated calculators. It's only beer. It wants to be made.
