just managed to break both thermometers! hlt on, and can't get away from house as daughter ill! can someone tell me what reading on hydrometer( calibrated. 20c) for strike temp of 70 c. bit desperate I know ...one day I'll calibrate the boiler thermostat ....help guys

There is a calculator on here for temp corrections so you could work it out from that I guess?

tried that mozza. calculations got me to. 992 approximately but was rushing! oh well mash on, will give it a couple of hrs, will find out later how crap my efficiencies are! hell, will drink end result regardless

You are likely to damage your hydrometer if you put it in 70c water. They are not always designed for it and could crack/pop as the air expands.

Wow....got away with it then....buying three thermometers next time....or more a thermapen..be safer.cheers for advice

Well, got an all in 64%.... considering I think I mashed too high that's fairly pleasing!

I read that traditionally, brewing water was at the correct temperature when you could see your reflection in it. At strike heat it does have a certain reflective quality, may help next time.
