mango chutney ..get the smell out

Post by alix101 » Fri Mar 21, 2014 6:24 pm

I purchased a mango chutney big blue barrell ages ago to use as a fermentor. ...can I hell get the smell out ,I've jet washed ,steam washed, soaked in brewery cleaner with nothing shifting the pungent smell.
..anyone else managed to do it.

I bought two the other week and they absolutely stank of mango chutney! I filled them with very hot water and split a bag of soda crystals between the two, left them to soak overnight and smell gone completely. Don't know what I'd in brewery cleaner so if it's the same as soda crystals then maybe won't work for you?
If I had all the money I'd spent on brewing... I'd spend it on brewing!

Just brew a couple of proper ipa's ie "curry house ipa's " until the smell is gone.

Cheers... try the soda crystals. ..The smell seems to be stronger I think the brewery cleaner just angered it

You'll save a few quid because you don't have to buy any New World hops for that tropical fruit taste.

pop the tops off and lay on their sides outside for a few weeks to air em out after a rinse out with a hose, and dont forget to pull the lid seal gasket if any and squirt the hose round the recess.

if any smell persists after a good airing a soak with laundry oxy should sort em, i have 5 out airing at the moment, been out a few weeks and have a slight hint of a pong when head stuck inside and a deep inhale taken..
ist update for months n months..
