Re: ideas for left over hops
It would help if we knew what malts and yeast you have. However, those hops are great for English bitters and IPAs.

Re: ideas for left over hops
to keep it cheap why not buy a geordies Yorkshire bitter kit (£10 ish) , bag brewing sugar( £2 a kilo). Mix kit with about eight liters, water in big saucepan, bring up to 80c, then steep some of the fuggles and goldings for fifteen minutes or so. Strain off, add brewing sugar, stir like a Nutter, then top up to 23 liters with water. Use kit yeast

In that case, straight pale malt, with Challenger as bittering and the rest later on should be tasty...presuming you're all grain?

Kind of yeah, i have a large boiler which holds its temperature very well with a thick sleeping bag over it so i can steep my grains in it (which are in a bag)timbo41 wrote:presuming you're all grain?
Re: ideas for left over hops
Sounds like all grain to me. I've been doing BIAB for a few years now and come to the conclusion that the only real difference is that I'm batch sparging and pouring the wort out of the mash tun because it doesn't have a tap. When all is said and done I'm only a tap and a fly sparge arm from full AG. Can anyone tell me how to make a sparge arm?

Same as me,although I also have a cooler mash tun. Can't normally be bothered with all that sparging. Plenty of simple smash recipes on forum, which are probably the cheapest all grain beers, and very tasty!

Redimpz, why bother? Just as easy to make a siphon and continue to batch sparge. Although the purists would say you get lower efficiencies.Redimpz wrote:Sounds like all grain to me. if that's the case, just up your grain bill a little ..hopefully RdeVor bribie will see this thread...big exponents of biab Works for me!,and less time

Re: ideas for left over hops
I've picked up a few tips from the maxi-biab page on the Aussi site. It works well, that's all there is to it.
I suppose that one day I'll have to buy a new bit of net curtain, this bit has been used quite a lot over the last few years
it's got a bit of a bulge in the middle where it has stretched a bit.
I'm not too worried about the fly sparge thing, what I am doing is getting results and that's what matters.

You could use all pale malt. Then use equal amounts of fuggles and goldings at 60 minutes 15 minutes then 5 minutes with a dose at flame out. Say an Og of around 1.045 and IBU of around 25
Simple s04 yeast. cracking pint.
