I've been asked to post photos before, but have never done it. I didnt know how (was too lazy).
I've never posted any photos of my brewing antics.
This is just to test I can get it to work.

Very nice indeed

What type of boiler do you have there, did you make it or purchase?

Cheers

Made it from old bit n pieces knocking about in my shed.
The element and control is from a 3kw 12L Lincat boiler.
The wood is salvage from my roof (when replacing the old one)
Bottom drain. I wont comment on the pot. Works great. Even has a nice lid.
I think it looks like it came from The Runaway Train ride from Alton Towers. Yee Haa

Nice pics Norm. :)

Do you mash in the wood-insulated bucket or the thermopot?

(EDIT: On closer inspection I think the wood thing is your boiler.)

Hi Jim

Yeah Mash in the Thermpot and boil in the wooden thing.
Both work well.

Just interested to know - does the timber give much insulation or retain a lot of heat? I imagine it would help with the boil but make cooling a lot slower.

My crappy camping mat goes on for the boil but is removed for cooling.

Hi Wez

Not that I've noticed, It has a 3k element. I mash in my kitchen and transfer wort in a bucket 1.5 gal at a time.
1st bucket full in the boiler covers the element. So switch on the element.
As I sparge each 1.5 gal, is added to the boiler. By the time I am about to add the 2nd and further buckets, the boil is almost up to temp.
So my heat up time is a few minutes.
Re Cooling. I use a 10 metre 10mm immersion coil from Leyland. It cools as expected.
I’m sure the wood does keep some heat in, But for 5-6gal it really doesn't make enough difference to notice.
It does stop you burning yourself if you happen to brush up against or touch the outside though.
