Installing a Cooker Hood above Boiler

Post by DC » Thu Apr 03, 2014 7:09 am

Hi guys, I am looking at buying a second hand (Shiny) cooker hood to use in my garage above my 100L Shiny boiler and was wondering if any of you have any experience of installing such a cooker hood? Just wondering what it would entail and what if any extras I would require to install said cooker hood

This is the one I am looking at buying from Ebay

Whilst that will help reduce general condensation, one major issue with cooker hoods is dripping, I will soon be moving onto direct chimneys due to this

You'll need a hole in the wall for the flue. You need some 4" flexible flue pipe (e.g. fro B&Q) as well, and a plate for the outside of the wall. I think you can get flue kits with all the necessary bits.

I installed a shiny cooker hood in the garage that a local kitchen showroom were throwing out. Problems I had were that it couldn't really keep up with extracting all the steam, even with the filters off.Anything that wasn't extracted condensed on the metal and dripped back into the boil. To work around this, I put a length of aluminium tube from a hole in the boiler lid straight up into the hood on brewdays. No drips, no condensation, but probably no need for the hood really!

+1 to the danger of drip back.. i did a winter brew in the kitchen and sat the boiler on the stove and attempted to use the extractor hood, and i spent the whole boil wipping off and directing natural drips away from the boiler mouth. without 100% success

If u do use one dont hang it level, slope it so any condensate on it will drip away from your boil..

i now sit my boiler by on open door with a 50cm fan sat behind it, it only takes the lowest power level to blow the steam out of the doo with the window open, and a natural draught.
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
