At 1pm it was 1.016 @ 20 degrees.

Makes sense, but 1020 still seems a bit high on a beer of that gravity.

I just bumped into this yeast series via Leedsbrew's new blog post, I wonder why I've totally missed this yeast...
Shame it's sold by homebrewshop in Aldershit, they charge 15 quid for EU delivery + signature where as Malt Miller charges around 7-8 + no signature and is my go to place when it comes to yeast and hops.
I'd really want to try this Burton one.

My brew shop in Bedford charges £3.69 which I thought was a bit steep for a dry yeast. For that price you would be better off getting a liquid yeast from wyeast or white labs.

Just brewed with the M07 Ale Yeast. It's described as a top fermenter - it's anything but - the krausen lasted about 24h and was gone. Floculation was as good as it gets and at least as good as S04 or Nottingham. Fermentation was rapid, attenuation was fairly high. Taste was initially very fruity, but this rapidly subsided to neutral, though the brew is a chocolate mild, so hard to tell. No discernible diacetyl. So I have no complaints and may even give it another go one day.

Not impressed by the West coast one.....
Hangs about quite a while, and that's even overpitching. Tastes neutral enough though, and allows hops to shine.
May go back to SO5 or Notts.

I've just brewed a bitter with MJ Burton Union. Fermentation went well. There is a slight taste of acetaldehyde but it is is very young, so I'm hoping it will condition out. Otherwise the taste is promising.

Another underwhelming experience with the M44. Slow to start, poor flocculation and some odd flavours. Eventually it was drinkable, but only just. All the symptoms of underpitching in what was only a 1042 strength brew. Back to Safale!

Uh-oh. I got a pack of it to use the next American amber that I brew to compare to the last batch I brewed with S-05.
I'm just here for the beer.

Sounds like transport / storage issues. Dried yeast packs should be stored under 20. I believe these yeasts are made in newzeland. If your pitching in UK after x months shipping at x degrees id imagine the yeast wouldnt work well by then.
However the rumors are that the M44 is a different strain to us05.. it may be the wy1764 Pacman / rogue strain.

That would be fantastic. Pacman is a great yeast. I recently brewed a pilsner (Briess pilsner DME and sterling hops) with Pacman that turned out pretty good. I entered it into a competition as a German Pilsner and scored a 38.
