I've got a brew in the fermemter just now that i'm looking to try a hop tea in.
Is it just as simple and putting hops in boiling water then pouring into the fermenter?

You can do them like that in hot water, I find that they give a better taste if you can let them steep in some wort.

I usually steep 20g or so in about 500ml of water just off the boil for about 15 mins, then strain into the beer and stir gently with a sterile implement. Beats dry hopping hands down for me.
You could use cooler water - bout 60-70C for more aroma and less flavour.

Neat! Got two identical (apart from yeast) brews on the go right now, and I'll try that with one of 'em as I've got a cafetiere which has been knocking around for aeons and maybe used twice for its intended purpose. Knew it'd come in handy one day!Growler wrote:I make mine in a 2 cup cafeteria leave to steep for 20 mins press down and add to wort

It's worth experimenting with different temperatures and lengths of time in the cafetiere. I think I like 30-60 mins at 80C. If it's 100C ish you are doing more of a late hop addition thing, which will lose some of the aroma and add some bitterness. Depends what you're after...

Like the idea of using a cafetiere. All I would add is that you can be precise on temp if you want, eg. Wait till 80C.
