Grape concentrate
Grape concentrate
What needs to be done with other ingredients If i Double the Grape concentrate in the kit ?
Re: Grape concentrate
This one is a solomon grungy elderflower 6 bottle kit
I have just made one from dried elder flowers which asked for 250 ml of white grape concenntrate
So have the same left over so thought i would add to the grundy kit wondered what difference it would make
Didnt know if i had to change sugar weight

Re: Grape concentrate
The recipe asks for 770 grams of sugar with a further 400 g At bottling stage
Re: Grape concentrate
Hum ? Well there's the obvious, like stronger batch, possibly improved body etc, don't know that you'd have to change anything else though. I'd have tbought it'd provide enough nutrient value as well as the sugars etc.......
Just run with it and once its done maybe some extra elderflower "dry hopped" in to boost that character ?

Re: Grape concentrate
On the 21st April I put 2 litres of Asda's pressed white grape juice and 750g of sugar in a demijohn, along with half a teaspoon of nutrient, half a teaspoon of citric acid and a pack of Gervin yeast. Fined it yesterday and it is starbright. Total cost about £3.50 for a gallon. Early indications are that it will turn out very good indeed. Hope so - I'll then make it in 5-gallon batches to keep up with the missus' demand and to save some cash. How much do kits cost??
Re: Grape concentrate
The SG kits I used cost e £2.00 each as they were close to date all I done was changed the yeast and nurtirant and also got 5 1\2 itre cans of concentrate close to date at £2.00 a tin so themy were cheapvand taste great

I did the same with Red, it's not great, SWMBO uses it for cooking.Capped wrote:On the 21st April I put 2 litres of Asda's pressed white grape juice and 750g of sugar in a demijohn, along with half a teaspoon of nutrient, half a teaspoon of citric acid and a pack of Gervin yeast. Re: Grape concentrate
Well that went down a treat with the missus, and she's now given me the go ahead to make a bigger batch. 24 bottles for under twelve quid, coming right up. LeeH I did sample the vino and although I don't much like wine at the best of times, I've gotta say I was very pleasantly surprised with it. This is gonna save me a goddamn fortune.Capped wrote:That's fine, so long as it's not actually poisonous - she'll sup owt.LeeH wrote: I did the same with Red, it's not great, SWMBO uses it for cooking.

Re: Grape concentrate
Right on cue - I made the 24 bottle batch up this morning. 8 litres grape juice, 3Kg sugar, 1085 SG so about 11.5% vol. The white turns out good, honestly!LeeH wrote:Nice one, I'll give the white ago then.

Re: Grape concentrate
Whether by luck or judgement, this batch has turned out great too - the missus is well into it and says it's every bit as good as shop-bought stuff costing £6+, 'cept mine costs no more than £12 for 24 bottles! Problem now is that I'm having to hide the bottles as she is not known for her self-control.....Capped wrote:Right on cue - I made the 24 bottle batch up this morning. 8 litres grape juice, 3Kg sugar, 1085 SG so about 11.5% vol.
