12v Temperature Controller for 12v Fridge

Post by Andy_C » Mon May 12, 2014 11:34 pm

Hi Guys

I'm lucky enough to own a tatty old Narrow boat with some Solar Panels and a 12v fridge.

Looking forward to the hot summer months and great homebrewed beer served at just the right temperature.

Happy to say I've been knocking out some great brews, so it's just the temperature controller I'm looking at.

Unsure about the 12v version of the stc-1000 with the spec saying 'Relay contact capacity: Cool 10A/250VAC;Heat 10A/250VAC; '

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elitech-All-Pur ... 008KVGWT4

Would this do the job to power my 12 fridge (Shoreline RK132W) ? Can anyone recommend another controller ?

Any advice would be appreciated as always

Thanks Again

Andy

Hi Andy, im no electrician, but my limited understanding is a ac relay will be fine if used for a dc load tho not the other way round, so as long as the dc load of the fridge is less than 10a it should be fine.
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(

It's the other way around, DC loads 'hold' contacts on so you need specific contacts for the appropriate voltage. But in this instance I'm sure it will be fine as such low voltage and current applies.

You obviously still need a 230VAC supply to it.

If the contacts are fine to run 12v this would be my concern as I take it that you have no 240v supply for the unit itself on board your boat!

Just to confirm its a 12v fridge and a 12v supply.

Thanks

I'd use the temp controller to fire some decent relays that you know can take a fair bit of dc current,something like http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/12v-40a-dc-re ... ions-ar32k ,however the controller you linked to might struggle to run on a 12v DC supply as according to the specs
Technical Parameters:
5. Power supply: 12VAC±10%, 50/60Hz;

Have a search on ebay. There are many different specs for the "STC-1000" look-alike controllers, including DC 12v types.

This one looks like it's what you're after...
12V Automatic Digital Temperature Controll Regulator Thermostat Switch 40℃~120℃

Specification:
1.Working voltage:DC12V±10% 50/60Hz;
power consumption:≤3W
2.Measurement range: -50°C~100°C;
Measurement error:±0.5°C
3.Control range:-40°C~120°C;
temperature control precision: separation rate:0.1°C;
slewing range of temperature:it could be adjusted in the range of
1~30°C;
4.Temperature sensor:NTC 25°C=10k B3435 ±1%(1 miter length,no
positive or negative);
5.Output load:normally open 10A/DC12V
6.Working environment:temperature :-20°C~70°C
humidity:90%RH none moisture condensation;
7.Dimension of whole unite:75(W) X 34.5(H) X 85(W)mm
