Is there a specific reason for that? I am asking just for curiosity. :)
Dead space not so critical, and gas heating might burn seals.
Right. So maybe just for mash tun. Thank you mate

Hi guys, here are some updates from the mash tun:

I had some difficulties with the coating so I had to grind it

This is the inside. The False bottom is waiting for the ss pipe to connect with the tap. I will have it cut and threaded tomorrow

Fil,

This sounds like a good idea.Have you ever or do you know of anyone who has used the hole at the top of the keg as a drain? How and what would you fit a tap into the opening? Would you have to grind off the bit that sticks up to which the "connector" is attached to for gas and extraction of beer?

Thanks

Depends on the keg paz1. There are some kegs that you can unscrew the connector you said so you wont need to grind it. For me it sounded like too much trouble that is why I did it on side. If I had a special trolley that the mash tun would sit permanently and the tap would be somewhere tight then I would go for bottom drain. But unfortunately I don't have much diy knowledge neither! :)

I've done it, haven't finished the build yet but it works fine. turn th ekeg upside down, cut the bottom out. Remove the spear, file down a triclamp gasket and then attach a blanking cap as normal, or a triclamp valve... or whatever you like really.
had it on drip test for days and with a bit of tightening, no problem at all. I'm tempted to ty some silicone gaskets as they're a bit squishier and see if i still get a solid seal.
