bench capper ( sort of !)
bench capper ( sort of !)
my black two handled Youngs type capper failed and I still had a few bottles to fill and cap so desperate measures were needed . I drilled out the rivets of the capper and took out the black plastic part that held the bell. I fastened a short length of 3X2 to the wall against my workbench with a hinge. I fitted it at a height so as to get a magners bottle under it.I screwed the bell part un the underside of the 3X2 about 10 inch from the wall. I put a full bottle on the bench with a new cap on top and brought down the wood so as to make contact with the cap and a bit more downward pressure gave a perfect seal. I found out that by fitting small bits of plywood under the bottle different sizes of bottle could be capped. It looks a bit Heath Robinson but works a treat and I now need to make a better version now I know it works in principle. Once I got used to it its a lot faster than the two handled one. Who needs to spend £30 on one ? I can make a couple of brews for that ! I have actually used it now for my last three brews
