So, I'm about to knish wherry, i was going to bottle some then barrel the rest, but I've had second thoughts and will prob just bottle
but i do not have enough brown beer bottles (I use the plastic ones)
heres the question, can i use any plastic bottles i.e. old water, juice bottles ? as long as they are PET ?? and even though they are clear bottles, if I'm storing them in boxes, this shouldn't be a problem...should it ????

Bottles..another idiotic question
Re: Bottles..another idiotic question
I use Old Speckled Hen and Cidre bottles as someone I know gives them to me, I store mine in the dark, so as not to cause skunking, which is only caused by too much light, if you store them in a dark cupboard or in boxes somewhere they will be fine. Not sure about the plastic bottles though as I only use glass ones.

Rango. I'd only use PET bottles that have had fizzy drinks in, as they are designed to hold pressure. And, as stated, store them somewhere dark.
Re: Bottles..another idiotic question
I've found all 'food grade' (i.e. Had drink in them to start with) PET bottles to be fine.
That said, the fizzy drink ones with the separate plastic bottoms are best as they don't become convex under the pressure of the CO2 under secondary fermentation. It's tough storing 'weeble' bottles!
I've used the 5ltr bottles that my spring water came in to stick 5 ltrs of beer back in no probs - a sort of metric Watneys Party 7 to take to barbeques! Just gotta be careful not to disturb the sediment when pouring several pints and put the cap back on in between to maintain the carbonation!!! Job done!
