Where do you think the UK sellers buy theirs from?

They will be the same unit but you will have to wait 3 weeks.

Judging by the wiring diagram on it, it is only heat or cool, but not both as there only seems to be one relay.

Just ordered a 15 quid one. It says on the cheaper one that the buyer is responsible for import duty etc, can't be bothered messing about with all that. Got a brew in FV too so need it asap really to get the brew fridge up and running correctly. Turning the fridge on and off manually is a bit of a pita

Depends what you're going to use it for, its only got a 5A relay so it won't work on a 2-3kw heating element, you'll need something that manages at least 10-13a for that, also a single relay means it'll control heating or cooling but not both, you need 1 relay for a heater and a separate one for the cooling if you're going for full temp control. I got one in an identical box to Ditches, so probably from the same factory- but I did get a 240v 30A model, no problems so far touch wood. Mine controls my HLT so I only need a single relay for heating

Gonna use it for temp controlled brew fridge. The one I have ordered is a dual control one. Maybe that's why this one is a bit cheaper. Does anybody use them as dual purpose? So controlling brew fridge but on brewday to control a herms etc?

If you check out the picture, there's a part number WK7016C1, and the manufacturer is GuangHao.

It does look like a cheap knock-off of the original STC-1000, but if it does turn out to be the same, it'll be a bargain at £7-ish.

Does anybody use them as dual purpose? So controlling brew fridge but on brewday to control a herms etc? NOt yet but I was planning too. The issue with using it as PID from my limited understanding is the processing speed - in that the STC1000 looks at the tempreture of the wort every few minuets (the heater be either be on or off) whereas the PID is looking to correct thetempreture diffirentail all the time. So the stc1000 sensor takes a reading and if below the set tempreture will power the heater and heat it on full power, the temp sensor will then sit there for a bit (a few minuets?) before checking the tempreture again and if up to tempreture switch the heating element off. Whereas the PID is looking for the tempreture diffirentail all the time and so will look at the tempreture of the wort, work out the difference of it to the set tempreture and then work out how much heat to apply to the heating element to balance it and this is constantly been corrected.

I haven't got my STC1000 set up yet so not tried it for the dual purpose but as I say from the above I think they're too much swing in temp and not ideal when you get a PId for £20-£30 I also maybe wrong in my understanding if anyone could correct me that be great...

The minimum differential on the STC-1000 is 0.3C.

Good enough for most people, and so much more simple to operate.
