Wine Filter

I've seen in our local Boyes, they do a wine filter, Basically its a syphon tube with a connecter in the middle that you put filter pads in.
Has any one used one of these before? How good are they at filtering wine and how many uses can you get out of the pads, or is it a case of chuck em after each use?

The filter pads are disposable. They do work very well.......but I don't make wine any more.
I have a Harris Vinbrite wine filter here sat doing nothing if you want it?? Not sure if it has any pads with it though.

You'll probably laugh but I have used an inline fuel filter for filtering wine . I've been making Elderflower and Elderberry Wine for the last two years and haven't found the need to filter as I rack it into a second set of demijohns once the fermentation has finished and wait for it to clear before bottling it. My wine has been crystal clear. Mind you I never had any real instruction on how to make wine apart from a book by John Seymour on Self Suffiency.

I usually rack into a secondary container but I found when I did this, a little bit of the sediment got sucked up, then quite a few of the bottles had the tiniest amount of sediment in the bottom of the bottle, not very aesthetically pleasing. Or if I filtered direct from the FV, the first batch of bottles was clear but the last few always ended up with a bit of sediment in, due to the bottom being disturbed.

I've got the filter off of Mr. Dripping and its worked a treat, very slow but good none the less
