Greehouse tube heater
Greehouse tube heater
Just arrived today for my brew fridge.
Question is, how does everyone run the power cable in to the fridge? the STC 1000 sensor probe is fine just going in but the power cable for the heater means the seal doesn't close.
Cheers

I wedge mine in through the seal in the corner closest to the hinge, you have to fiddle a bit to get it just right though.

I was thinking of using that. Problem is that it's permanently in the fridge then. Unless I took the plug off every timeFil wrote:the condensation drain vent is used by some, if u plug it with cable be minful u could get a water pool at the bottom.

Permanently in the fridge is the way i go.. also consider adding a small fan to run when heating and cooling are occurring it will increase the efficiency dramatically as the air is the medium of heat exchange, moving it about helps it work better..

Re: Greehouse tube heater
yah might find it has to be "permanent" whatever i think. i drilled through the sidewall of my first fridge but after that died (unrelated) i realised it'd sit alright (as said already) in the hinge side. couldn't get mine to shut anywhere else around the door so had to be there.
dazzled, doused in gin..
Re: Greehouse tube heater
These tube heaters tend to be supplied with 1mm cable which is suitable for 10A. On a heater that will draw 0.25A (assuming 60w heater) this is overkill.
Replace it with 0.5mm or less 3 core and there will be plenty of room in the drain for condensation to escape or make it easier to fit through the seal.

Would your advice still apply?? thanks
Re: Greehouse tube heater
Yeah, exactly the same as most people use that one.
You'll most likely need to provide your own cable anyway as in the description 'Comes With 1.5m Cable + Plug wired to Unit' which may not be long enough.

Cool, cheers. So just replace the existing cable with a thinner cable?AnthonyUK wrote:Yeah, exactly the same as most people use that one.

Re: Greehouse tube heater
Any mains flex will be able to handle such a low current so yes.
Re: Greehouse tube heater
Could I just strip the main cable so just left with the three wires then just tape them up with electric appliance tape?
Re: Greehouse tube heater
I popped a small hole in the sidewall for the wire. I had to make one for my gas line anyway so it wasn't too bigger issue.

Re: Greehouse tube heater
I put holes through the sides of all my fridges for the heater cables.
