Changing the tap on a Buffalo boiler

Post by guypettigrew » Mon Jul 28, 2014 6:29 pm

Anyone know whether it's possible to swap the tap on a Buffalo boiler for a stainless steel ball valve, please?

Thanks.

Guy

Should be the same as any other boiler. Unscrew the tap, punch the right size hole with a q-cutter and add your ball valve by which ever means you decide.

Did this a few months ago. Take the old tap out punch a new 22mm, (I think) hole using a QMax cutter and Bob's yer uncle. You just need to watch that you've got the QMax positioned correctly over the existing hole.
Best wishes

I'm not sure if it was here on Jim's or not but there is a guide by a user RPT showing how to fit a ball valve which doesn't require any drilling. I used it on my Buffalo as it listed all the parts to order.

I found it here - http://forum.craft brewing.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=409

Yes, with a 3/8" ball valve, that works. I already had a 1/2" valve so needed to enlarge the hole.
Best wishes

20.4mm here, fits 1/2" BSP fittings perfectly

Yes, mine is 21mm. I would think 20mm is a tight fit.

You can 'make it have it' with 20mm but it is too small.

This all seems too scary for me!

If I bought a Buffalo and a ball valve is there anyone nearish to me who I could take it round to for the job to be done?

Thanks.

have to disagree 20mm is puuurrrfikt , the inside diameter of 1/2" bsp thread is less then 20mm.. self centering ;)
21mm and u have a too big a hole imho tho in practice both will work, 20mm may be a tad easier to seal up tho?

find yourself close to ox4 and your welcome to borrow ours Guy. but it is only 20mm ;)
