Wilko golden ale is a superb kit. but PLEASE don't worry as I've also found that this on the 2 occasions that I've made it doesn't give a really low FG.
If I were you, I wouldn't worry too much and give the yeast more time than the kit instructions say.
I think these 2 kits are made by Muntons and use pretty much identical yeast.
I've made a wilko golden ale with safale US05 yeast before, and it still didn't end up that low. Tasted superb though, which is the main thing :-)

Well it's dropped to 1011 which is better than 1020! Tasted it and its fine. Should I be bottling this up now and if so should I prime? Don't want it stuck in the bottle and end up with a sweet undrinkable beer, I'd rather have it flat.

1011 is excellent, lower than I've ever reached with wherry using kit yeast.
if the reading stays the same 3 days in a row, then yes bottle it :-) You'll be in for a treat in around 6 weeks time.

As for bottling, I prefer to batch prime. That was you get even sugar distributed throughout all the bottles. Obviously you need another FV or large enough container to be able to do this :-)

Well done, your patience paid off :-)

Well I did add some generic beer yeast a few days ago and I have done this kit before with no problems at all, but if you say that's good then that's good enough for me! Still, its going to be a tad on the weak side isn't it. .

I would think it will be around 4% which doesn't bother me in the least, as it's such a lovely beer.
I think Woodfordes do stronger ABV kits if that's what you're after.

Hi all,

First post, just joined up after buying a kit and Wherry yesterday. Interesting to then find this forum and a thread about Wherry!

Hope you don't mind me asking a question or two about brewing on this thread, as it is a Wherry thread?

Water - are you just using tap water? Treated in any way to remove chlorine? Thought about filling the bucket and just leaving it to gas off the chlorine?

Temperature - does anyone heat to keep it warm, I read 20 degrees?

Thanks, Bob

Hello Bob, welcome to the best forum :-)

I never bother with anything other than tap water, nothing added. I use it just as it comes out of the tap. Others would disagree, but each to their own.

If you're talking about fermentation temp, I try to keep between 18-20degrees, with the aid of a foam box I made, taped up with duct tape. Inside I use frozen bottled water and have a digital thermometer probe just inside the lid.

Never had a spoiled beer yet using all of the above, but like I say you'll prob get other opinions on this. Get a few brews under your belt and you will see what works for you. :-)

Cheers

Rich

Thanks, Bob
