Hi guys.
Please take it easy on me but I put on a sweet newkie brown kit and while washing my hydrometer I managed to drop it!!!!
Now there have been no bubbles through the airlock so I suspected I may have pitched the yeast at too high a temp.
After 4 days of suspected inactivity I pitched a pack of ale yeast which produced bubbles for about 30 minutes and stopped.
I bought a new hydrometer yesterday and checked the gravity and it's now at what I think is 1.10 (the black band on a reeves hydro.
Have I screwed up this batch by adding the extra yeast or should I just carry on and still put it in my pressure barrel?
So sorry but am just getting started and thank you in advance

Re: Wilko sweet newkie brown screwup
Hi, and welcome to the forum. It sounds like it may well be ready to transfer to pb, but you don't say how long it has fermented for. Best to give it 14 days minimum in the fv then batch prime as you rack it to pb. Don't fret too much about bubbling airlocks. The CO2 will find the route of least resistance, so if there is any slight leak on the lid of your fv it will escape there. A gravity reading of 1.010 is just about as low as most kits will go. Take another reading in a day or so and if it has not changed it's probably done.

Thank younfor the response and the welcome.
Its been in the fv since last monday so not too long. The instructions say to add 85g of sugar at the barrelling stage,
Wil the extra yeast affect the taste much? Ie make it a drier pint?
So far ive done
1x nut brown ale from the range
1x cheap lager kit
1x youngs barley wine which is carbonating.
And this newkie brown.

Unless it's a different yeast strain, which might find more sugars to ferment and make it 'dryer', then it won't find any more than the 30 minutes worth and just sink to the bottom and join the rest of the trub.
Might just get a tiny bit more trub/barrel sediment than normal. It all settles out in the end!

Brilliant. Thank you.
So is the general consensus that it should be ok and just barrel it?
If so is there any way I can tell if it's going to work out or is it just a case of transfer to
Pb, prime and wait?
Again, thank you
