Looks delicious to me. It's all a matter of personal preference, but I like Fuggles better than Brewer's Gold, so I would move a little Fuggles to flame-out. I think the earthy/flowery aroma aspects go great in a dark English ale like this. I love your use of Fullers yeast too. Of course, I'd add a few handfuls of oats to improve head retention, lace, and contribute a nice full, creamy mouthfeel.

Happy brewing!

I would also swap the black malt for roasted barley :)

But that's just me.

I find the black malt too harsh in a mild, and like the flavour the roast barly gives in a mild

Interesting, I'll have to try it out. I typically think of Roasted Barley as even darker than Black Patent Malt, the main difference being Black Malt starts as pale malt whereas Roasted Barley starts as unmalted grain. So, I don't know why Black Malt would be harsher than Roasted Barley.

But I could be wrong. They're both very dark and very roasty, and I've never done a side-by-side brew with Black Malt and Roasted Barley from the same manufacturer in a recipe with everything else the same.

I can recommend Barney's Bumble Black Mild. Do a forum search (sorry I can't post the link as I'm on Tapatalk).

I'm drinking it now and it just gets better and better with age. I brewed mine using Fullers yeast strain.

Yeah, sublime stuff. Barney won that big Saltaire contest with that recipe. Needless to say, he's an awesome mild brewer.

Cheers for all of the feedback on this.

I'll do a bit more research before I brew, which will be after Xmas.

Cheers

Doing a bit of a u - turn with this brew. I've decided to brew a 1.040 Special Bitter with my Mild malt now for the spring #-o

I'm thinking 97% Mild Malt & 3% Pale Crystal, with Fuggles @60min and then 15g of Amarillo @30mins and 15g of Amarillo @10mins.

Cheers
