The issue is...is it worth it?
Idea is based around a 10inch water filter, 1/4 barbs for in and out, circulate beer from tap on FV to an additional tap half way up the bucket via the filter which is packed full of hops, (this would be pumped).
Instead of a filter element there would be hops with a perforated tube used to keep the hops in the filter housing...so hops on the inlet side and beer bing pushed thru them, thru the perforated tube to the outlet.
Now important things are no air/oxygen so an air bleed on a T would be used on the top tap to bleed off the air and around 1/2 pint of oxygenated beer before it is allowed back in the FV...then just let the pump circulate it around for 3 days or so.
Im thinking total waste could be kept to less than 1 pint, if the hoses are long enough the filter/hop inducer could be lifted above the FV and gravity used to drop the beer back in as the FV is racked to bottles or the keg... as the FV is being drained (the FV is full of co2 which would be drawn in to the circulation system as the FV drains out.
So thoughts?
I have the filter housing already, i bought 2 as I have another idea about filtering beer just as its served...will go into that one later.
I may not get to build this up soon, to much going on, so was wondering anyone else circulated pre conditioned beer thru hops in a similar way?
Got an idea similar to a hop torpedo
Re: Got an idea similar to a hop torpedo
So ...by the wonders of google I was pushed back to this forum..and yes its been done before with good results. So, its worth the effort to build it me thinks.
Hopback seems to be what they are called...anyone have one they use that can pass some tips my way?

google "hop Randel" or randle
the aussies have been doing it for a while, you can get the 10" filter housings with a bleed valve to evacuate all the air too. Go for it

they more pull a pint thru this than use it to hop the bear while making it...Fil wrote:google "hop Randel" or randlethe aussies have been doing it for a while, you can get the 10" filter housings with a bleed valve to evacuate all the air too. Go for it

My idea was to push hot wort thru it for 30mins then circulate fermented beer thru it for say 48hrs before kegging etc instead of dry hopping.
When I do my first extract brew I will no doubt have the parts to hand by then and will give this a go.
