Yeast starter step sizes

Post by quixoticgeek » Mon Dec 29, 2014 9:48 pm

Following the instructions on this forum for splitting a Wye Yeast pack, I've split one into 3 12ml tubes. I would now like to brew with one of these, but am not sure what size starter steps to use. Can anyone suggest what size starter steps to use? I want to pitch WLP530 into a 5 gallon batch of 1.067 SG.

Thanks

Julia

Im sure this isnt scientific  but I'd personally use the size of conical flasks I have in stock - 100ml > 500ml >1000mls (and up to 2000mls if it was a high gravity wort)
Primary 1: Nonthing
Primary 2 : Nothing
Primary 3 : None
Secondary 1 : Empty
Secondary 1 : None
DJ(1) : Nowt
DJ(2) : N'otin....
In the Keg : Nada
Conditioning : Nowt
In the bottle : Cinnamonator TC, Apple Boost Cider, Apple & Strawberry Cider
Planning : AG #5 - Galaxy Pale (re-brew) / #6 - Alco-Brau (Special Brew Clone) / #7 Something belgian...
Projects : Mini-brew (12l brew length kit) nearly ready :D

Generally you step up by 10 times so 120 ml then 1200ml and if you were being fussy 12L . . . Although I'd probably only do a 5l max. . . Lagers get an extra step at 20L
