score around fittings with a fingernail first to avoid tugging out any sealing.

I know it stands off the floor so it should be ok on that front
Ok that's weird as the 3kw element I bought from Amazon
has 20mm clearance all around in a 6l pot and stands off the floor by 15mm
Clearly it's not the Burco version but looks a tidy little thing and I'm wondering will it perform as well, I guess time will tell, just wondering why I opted for 2 backers in the HLT instead of these fellas #-o

Ok my finished version, coil from Mr Lard.

Cheers, I think they aren't as robust as your own but we will see.

Auber PIDs and a power controller arrived. Looking forward to when I can test the power controller on a boil:

Very nice what's that rated up to amp wise? Or does it work an SSR?

Just did a little test on my own herms tonight 40l 20-64 degrees in just under 50 mins so it's a little brute!

It's designed to drive an SSR so I suspect the rated current is v.low.

What kind of flow rate did you have when you tested it? Torrent or trickle? Which pump?

Interested in how that progresses as I want to do similar, is that controller direct from Auber, do you have a link?

Chugger 11l min, no restriction valve in exit as coil and disconnects, open bore on feed and standard bore on exit provide the resistance to keep the pump flooded. Unrestricted pump will do 19.

Thanks, yet to get my pumps. Chuggers were on my list.

The power controller is here:

Today I took the bottom drains and elements out, cleaned and put them back. This time I cut some seals out of a sheet of 3mm silicone that I had hanging around. I managed to get everything done up nice and tight without the silicone deforming. I'm much happier with the result and no leaks so far. I've also added a couple of o-rings under the deck drains. No idea if they have helped, but belt-and-braces etc.

Thanks for the link barneey. I bought 6 discs from this chap a couple of years ago so I've got what I need for this build. Useful to know about the offcuts though.

Was thinking about those disks for my herms pot but just cut side out of a plastic box stuck it down with silicone, it's splash proof, insulated and I can see easily if something has shorted :)

Thanks for the link.
