Rather than build a shelf to fit my FV for support in my fridge.

would leaving the glass shelf in place and turning the vegtable crisper upside down with the front cut off work?

depends on how comfortable you are with trusing a glass shelf and a plastic box in supporting 20-23 kilos of fermenting wort

Yeah I know weight is a HUGE issue but with my 33 litre FV just fitting I wouldn't be able to build a shelf into it with out it being super thin.

U less I go with my 23 litre FV may have some luck that way.

I have exactly the same now and it works fine, I couldn't be bothered to make a shelf so just use the glass one with a patio heater underneath it, not had a problem.

I used the wood from bed slats, if it will take a bodies weight it will take an Fv.
once cut to length would they slide into shelf slots ?

That's what I though but the glass shelf is only 5mm thick the gap maybe 8-9mm?

under latt at edges and support front edge witha box frame - that'll do it.

That helped. Also just discovered some old wood from a old wood flooring which will sit onto of the runs to hold them.

Now injust need to try gain 1 inch to try squeeze my FV in.

So temp reg box can't be moved.

So my 33 litre FV does jot fit in fridge.

My 23 litre will. I will just have to go with the 23 litre for my all grain brewing fermenting.

Only thing is will all grain develop more frothing during fermentation than extract or kits do? Don't have room for blow off set up in fridge either.

Fwiw without excessive aeration(splash drained thru a sieve into FV) of the wort, fermenting and pitching at the low end of the yeast temp range (ie S04 @ 18C) i never had a huge overspilling kraussen and would ferment out primary for circa 5% beer in 4-5days (again S04).

If you pitch warm with a healthy starter however you may encourage a bigger Kraussen??
Ive tended to pitch cooler and with S04/dry yeast simply sprinkling in dry..

the size/shape of my fridge means no buckets at all I use jerrycans and 30l 4" neck wine fermenting vessels.. i can fit an airlock on a jerrycan, but generally just cap loosely..
as long as its foodsafe, and sanitary and fits consider it as an option






If you can easily access the electrical connections to the fridge compressor system, and dont mind loosing the fridge light, issolating the fridge temperature controller box so you can remove it could be as easy as powering the copmprssor directly, and removing the wiring connections to the light and built in controller. (follow the thicker guage power wires to the compressor..)

Also a fan should help efficiency moving the air around inside to aid both heat and cold distribution.

I lost you at the electrical bit.

If what your getting at is a way for removing the temp reg box and light then thats something im going to be looking into.

So kn the way to removing temp reg box in the fridge, I have found the wires which disappear into the fridge wall and re emerge at the back near the compresser.

Now what do I do to the wires if I intend to install a stc 1000?

1st i am no electrician....so am not qualified to advise at all


However
get an stc1000 first.. then wire it up so you have a flex carrying neutral earth and the stc1000 switched (via the cooling relay) live..

take this to feed the compressor directly in the fridge once the wires chasing through to the light and controller have been disconnected.

And then test, remembering the stc1000 has a compressor delay feature so dont fret when the fridge dosent kick off straight away..

once confirmed the fridge works OK then you can hack out the box in the way..

if not clear try taking a few photo's of the fridge electrics.. ...

Foolishly I am a bit impatient and started taking the temp reg/light box apart and took it out so the wires were just left.

But put it back together and will order a stc 1000 friday. I assume I will need a few other bits aside the fridge and stc-1000
