Again i am no electrician.....

if its out its out, just insulate ANY n ALL stray wires before u test with power..

to complete you may need
leggobrick/chocky block 10a+ terminal connector strip upto 9x connections
a heat source, 60w tube heaters via toolstation are popular
a box gable glands and possibly a probe plug/socket
1.5mm sq flex to wire it all up. u should have saved the flex off the last w/machine you chucked ;) for powering the 60w or similar heater 0.5mm sq lighting flex is more than adequate but not for the heavy amp draw compressor wiring

hope thats usefull

google will give u utubes and diagrams for the wiring if needed..
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(

So then, just getting things ordered for stc-1000 fridge build.

Was curious if a 15 amp terminal block will be Ok for 13 amp plugs. Yes? - no?

Your fridge and heater is unlikely to draw anything close to that. 5amp would probably be more than enough even with a small surge when the compressor starts up.

Ssssooooo..... the fridge plug is 13 amp.

5 amp terminal block would be fine for the fridge?

All domestic electrical stuff comes with a "13A" plug cos thats what fits in the socket, but it's the value of the fuse in that plug that matters, if you pull the fuse out I'd expect to see a 5A one at most or a 3A really, as fridges only consume about 500w tops, or 2-2.5A. So as AnthonyUK says the 5A connectors would be fine

Cheers gents.

Could have sworn it was a 13 amp fuse but will go with the advice of a 5 amp.

13 amp is quite a lot of power.

You are always better using the lowest rated fuse possible. 5 amps should be sufficient for a fridge, might only get close to that at start up, it will drop off once running.

As it happens I used 15 amp connector strips when making up my STC 1000 box, as they are physically bigger and easier to work with. Also it makes it easier to connect the multiple earths and neutrals together where needed.

I have just added a computer fan to my brewfridge and it seems to have improved it further. It was already good but seems even better now. As it's in the garage in this cold weather, I suppose the fan is drawing in the air through the drain hole and avoiding the need for the compressor to kick in.

13A is good for about 3kw which is usually in something with a heating element.
A fridge is usually rated at 100w or less.

A good point gobuchul regarding using the larger rated connections if you are joining cables together etc.

I think you would need a short length of 15mm copper pipe?

I also think you may of posted your question on the wrong thread! :)

determine the +ve and -ve wires from the 9v adaptor,
a pc fan has 3 wires black red and yellow, black is -ve, red +5v, and yellow +12v

connect the dc adaptor -ve wire to the pcfan black wire, and the +ve to the yellow +12v pcfan wire.

if u run to the red with a 9v supply u will burn out the fan..

if not clear which wire is which on the adaptor grab a multimeter most folk know someone with one, and set it to dc voltage and test a digital one will display -9v when u have -ve connected to +ve etc, and +9v when -ve connected to -ve and +ve connected to +ve, an analouge meter will show when u have it right, and the needle will try and flick backwards against its stop if not.. ;)

hope that helps..

Fil,

It depends if you have a 3 or 4 wire fan.

I have a 12v supply running my 3 wire fan on the red and black wires with no problem.

I don't use the yellow and have in fact, cut it off.

3 wire fan BLACK: Ground RED: 12v, YELLOW: Tacho
4 wire fan BLACK: Ground YELLOW: 12v GREEN: Tacho BLUE:Control

There is some more info here.

couldnt determine which was which so tried red/black on both of the 9v wires only 1 combination worked and the white i didnt touch.

I have another spare which is a DV12V will that work on a similiar 9v adapter?
