Setled on this For mash Tun. Thoughts wanted please.

I have just about setled on one of these for my mash tun. Would like any feedback, thoughts tips etc. has anyone used one and would you know what bits and pieces I would need to add a tap, strainer etc? I have no idea about sizes etc for tank connectors and piping. TIA

I got a 32 litre thermos brand cooler box for half the price of that
From amazon.

Not sure which would work better advantages Etc...

But I suspect your option probably will.

The Coleman will keep ice as ice for 3-5 days. Was thinking that there will be little temp loss during the mash.

Had one for 2 years and did 40-50 brews lost a degree over an hour brewing in a freexing shed nothing if I therw a blanket over it expensive but worth the money mine was about £55 on Amazon with free delivery

I have the very same cool box which was converted to a mashtun by Barneey , don't use it very often these days unless I'm doing a short brew length , it certainly holds temperature very well during the mash .

I've got a Coleman tun but not the Xtreme. I have to cover with a sleeping bag or I lose about 5 degrees over 90 mins. Need to fill the hollow lid when I get chance. I just use a tank connector from tool station as you can file out the lip that stops the pipe going right through then just a normal ball valve tap. Works a treat. I use a braided tap hose filter and never stuck yet (touch wood)

It's manky as its been gathering dust for 12 months.
I also made copper to sparge with, my last mod was a herms in the lid.

So is it, from outside to inside, 1/2 inch ball tap - - tank connector - whatever filter I am using ?

for loads of build ideas to copy.... you could even use as is, if you contain the grain in a net bag and batch sparge (just be careful not to catch/pull the bag when doughing in/stirring)
u just need to pull the drain plug to drain each batch

its a popular choice for US tun builders going by the google results.. and should hold the temp very well,, good luck with it..

ps if u go for a SS braid filter you can source it from ebay search for automotive SS overbraid, buy it by the meter, its a lot less hassle than trying to remove the braid from a flexible tap connector or similar

I used one for years producing some good beers and I even installed a sparger.

Plastic pipe sparger.
