I use the 'Special' tool to remove the Spear.

Basically you unscrew the spear, then you place the special tool in the center of the spear, and finally fit the coupler. The safety lugs are then disengaged and you can withdraw the spear.

This is an image of the 'special' tool

Ok another way of asking the question how does crusader want you to remove the spear

I suspect that there is a special type of disconnect that depresses the fitting in the way that adding the 5p does

I can sort of see their point wrt preventing pub owners and so on buying such things to fiddle with the kegs or contents, given that they can act like a gas-powered harpoon.

But possibly self defeating in the case of home-brewers, who may be encouraged to remove the safetys from the spear. Personally I prefer the 5p idea, or maybe make a special coupler with an extended prong. Though the order of releasing gas and safety still needs to be done correctly; I suppose this is an area where cornys have some benefits for home use.

Cheers

These are ecokegs, they are not polykegs which are another type of single use plastic keg. I have some polykegs which are second hand and I have a lot of problems getting them to seal properly. Possibly 3 out of my 6 are usable, but not always reliably and I don't know how long they will last. The ecokegs do look promising especially as they are brand new.

Cant you just ask for the S-type non-safety spear?

All the kegs I order I have got with-out the safety clip, as it's quicker on days when I'm cleaning loads of them.

Not from Crusader mind.

I run my kegs at a max of 10psi. Especially when you consider the time you open them would be after dispensing.

I can tell you that opening one at 10psi will not cause the spear to shoot out and kill you.

I got my new kegs yesterday with the spears separate as requested. 10 mins with a hacksaw and they were safety less. It was a separate piece of metal that just needed the legs cutting off then removing so it's like it was never there...
