Pump power supply

Post by bert7cosby » Mon Mar 16, 2015 12:20 pm

Hi, I have just purchased a 12v 1amp solar pump from brewuk. I now need to get myself a power supply and have found an old 12v 2amp psu from an old appliance. Any ideas if this would be ok or would the 2amps be to much?

As above it will be fine.

I put a cheap speed controller on mine, works well.

One of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/351155646086? ... EBIDX%3AIT

Put it in a small plastic container and works fine. I use to get my sparge rate correct.

Thanks chaps! I was mainly going to use it for transferring wort into my fv but I may use it to sparge as well. Could you not just alter the flow for the sparge with the ball valve if using a pump ?

Not with the solar pumps no, you will damage it.

I don't bother with a speed controller, I just go pedal to the metal every time I use it ;)

I batch sparge though - life's too short for fly sparging

Too short?!

Takes me 25 minutes to fly sparge 7 gallons of wort into the boiler. Since when is batch sparging faster?

Plus with fly sparging you get to use a lovely spinny thing!!

25 mins sounds like quite a fast flow rate for fly sparging, but whatever works for you :) The equivalent batch sparge would take 10-15mins and doesn't require mucking around with a silly spinny thing ;)

No desire to get into a religious debate over it though :)
