New shiny :)
Re: New shiny :)
Just out of interest @beerlover1983 - is the glass on your unit flush with the metal or slightly raised? Mine is slightly raised on one side and flat on the other - I'm wondering whether it's meant to be raised all the way around to there's no direct contact between the pot and the metal parts of the hob.
Re: New shiny :)
I think its level but its never meant to have a pot that exceeds the outer lines on glass so in normal use the metal touching the pot wouldnt be a issue.
I guess try the pot minus any insulation if it overheats then its the unit at fault.Thet do have a cutout after 2 hours use but it s a switch off and on to reactivate

Re: New shiny :)
There's nothing actually in the instructions or specs about not using a pan bigger than the hob, only that you shouldn't use one too small. Every other hob I've used, both gas and electric, work just fine with pots larger than the heat area - I'd consider that "the norm" for any kind of hob to be honest.beerlover1983 wrote:I think its level but its never meant to have a pot that exceeds the outer lines on glass so in normal use the metal touching the pot wouldnt be a issue.

Re: New shiny :)
I've had it boiling for the last 90minutes with no issues - not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing

Re: New shiny :)
Grumpy, did you use a plate or have you got it working directly. I was a bit confused because I had seen posts about going down the SS Tech route and they were meant to work with induction hobs then talk of buying a plate?
Re: New shiny :)
Just use it directly - I've called the "hob" an "induction plate" before so that might be me confusing thingsDerbyshireNick wrote:Grumpy, did you use a plate or have you got it working directly. Re: New shiny :)
ah sweet. I had seen plate and thought of those flat frying plan things you get to convert them for "normal" pots.
I am very tempted to save up some pennies and follow your lead. Be nice to be able to brew with it out on the patio 9 months of the year save steaming the house up (extractor hardly works).

Re: New shiny :)
When I have brewed inside I've put a fan on top of an upturned FV to blow the steam coming from the pot into the extractor on the cooker - seemed to work, but it's much more SWMBO friendly brewing in the BrewzeboDerbyshireNick wrote:ah sweet. It does actually say in the glass plate maximum diametee 28cm.Thats not the point im getting at as im not saying dont use it as i do and people use bigger. But if your unit is at fault dont give nisbets the ammo to say its your doing by using a bigger pot.
I found them to rather unhelpful when i phoned first asking they didnt even know the weight capacity and they make it.They asked what i was using if for i explained and they said they had a chef ask once about using it for big batches of soup. They said they advised not as the glass can crack. It seems they didnt want to say eitherway. But surely they know a weight limit.
Besides it works fine but i had a fellow brewer ask about hes and hes fan wasnt functioning as should and i think it was the cause of overheating issues.
Sounds like you now have it sorted
I wouldnt be without mind its allowed me to brew inside and with children about the risk or open flames has gone.Induction brewing is popular in other parts of the world for good reason.
cheers
Re: New shiny :)
So it does, I'd missed that - I didn't buy direct from Nisbets, I got it from the reconditioning / repair guy on Ebay, and to be fair to him he's been ok about it. I ran it for almost 3 hours today and never had a problem - I'll fill it up to more normal boil volumes tomorrow and try it again. The one time I did manage to glance an error code though it appeared to be E03, which is a voltage regulation issue, although that also says "let it cool down" as the fix so could still be heat related. I'm tempted to try putting some insulation on the metal parts around the glass - the pot doesn't actually have to be touching the glass for the induction to work, although I'm not sure if it has a weight sensor in it too. Last thing I want to do though is cook the thermawrap - I've done that before, it bloody stinksbeerlover1983 wrote: It does actually say in the glass plate maximum diametee 28cm.Thats not the point im getting at as im not saying dont use it as i do and people use bigger. But if your unit is at fault dont give nisbets the ammo to say its your doing by using a bigger pot.

Re: New shiny :)
Hes a really helpful chap have had quite a few chats mainly about him wiring a pid to one of these units.
One thing that worried me when i got this unit was hes ebay listing that said the ammount of these hes fixes ehich suggest they are unreliable but from rokdoks usage hes had a great run.
One thing the ebay chap said to make sure is keep the filter clean.Under the unit is a slide in mesh grill that traps crap when it draws air in for the fan he said thats a big cause of failure if not kept clean and make sure good air circulation around the unit other than that they sound.

I can't see any grill/mesh on the bottom of mine, or anywhere to put onebeerlover1983 wrote:Hes a really helpful chap have had quite a few chats mainly about him wiring a pid to one of these units.

Re: New shiny :)
So, good news and bad news from me.. turns out my cheapo Wilko's stock pot I bought for small batches is induction compatible
Bad news, my hob it definitely faulty because the error is E03 (voltage regulation issue) and it happens even with the small pot on, and before it even gets that hot:

He's sending out a new one and a returns label - can't fault the customer service he's given so far.
