40 ltr boiler is this ok?
Would this be ok to make 40 pint all grain batches as a kettle?

This is a pretty popular choice for BIAB myself included although the one shown looks to be a new design to mine.
You just need to keep the element spotless to avoid it cutting out.

I've got the old style. No problems to date. Do a search of Buffalo 40l, loads of threads

I was torn between one of these or a 50l stockpot and gas burner which worked out about the same cost wise. I ended up going for the latter as I thought the extra capacity would be useful (which it has been) and moving over to gas gives me more flexibility as to where I brew.
I'm sure one of these will do a decent job though and its more appealing than hacking kettle elements if you're set on leccy.

I know this is not in your neck of the woods, but it maybe of use to someone else. As I have heard the post/delivery cost can be a bit high.
Nisbits has opened a shop in Brighton about a month ago ( the old coop in London road)
So if your abit local it maybe worth the trip.

Apparently the 79 quid is internet price. How difficult would it be to change the tap on this - or could I just use the one that's already on?

Re: 40 ltr boiler is this ok?
Hole is slightly too small for a 1/2" ball valve, I got a q-max cutter to make it a bit bigger.
Re: 40 ltr boiler is this ok?
You can swap the tap out without a cutter, google buffalo tap replacement I followed this guide http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showt ... hp?t=30639. The ss bits cost around £25 from bes (the link has all the part numbers). I wouldn't use the tap on there as there's no way to add hose and you'd need to keep it pressed while draining 25liters odd of wort...
With vat the boiler costs £95 from nisbets. When I got mine in Jan, and my friend in March, shipping was free so worth checking the site.
I also spent £2.50 getting a higher rated thermal cutout as some people reported issues with it cutting out during the rolling boil - took a week to arrive from HK and, in my opinion, worth it for the piece of mind. Let me know if you want the link to the eBay item for the cutouts.

Mr Lard might be another option. Especially if if you don't have all the drill bits and fixings which can quickly add up in cost and time

You don't need to make a bigger hole on the buffalo. Follow this

Ordering now, Quick noob question how do you know how much hot water you have let out - say for filling the mash tun to what the brew requires - do you have to mark the inside yourself, or run it in to another vessel that is marked first or what?

Re: 40 ltr boiler is this ok?
I made a measure stick, measured water with a jug then put marks on the stick for quantity added.
Re: 40 ltr boiler is this ok?
I use a simple spreadsheet and have a long metal ruler. I then put the volume I want to run off into the tun, which tells me the height I need to drain to. A stick is probably simpler!
