Whirlpooling with a paint mixer

Post by Grumpydev » Mon Apr 20, 2015 12:47 pm

Does anyone whirlpool, and if so, has anyone tried it with one of these things hooked up to an electric drill?

I've seen similar ones designed for brewing in the states, but nothing over here - they're obviously not listed as food safe, but it would only be on cold wort and could be sanitised I suppose - stainless steel ones seem to be pretty hard to come by.

Quite a few people use them for aerating the wort in the FV, but I can't see it being suitable for whirlpool...

Already have one of those.. They're not really big enough.. They do an ok-ish job at aeration, but nowhere near the size or umph for a whirlpool.

I have ordered one from Amazon that another brewer has reviewed.. Its only cheap so will give it a "whirl" (pun intended ;)) and feed back.

I use exactly that one for aerating wort before pitching yeast to a kit brew.

attached to corded drill. works a treat.

sanitize first though.

Yep, it will do the job.
Yep, not food safe (but you will probably die of something else....)
