thermawrap or sleeping bag
Still trying to figure a base layer for my pan (100 ltr stockpot) on a gas burner come up with 2 options
1) thermawrap looks pretty proven insulating quality's. The main questions is what kind should I use and can this stuff be permantly attached or will I have to remove between mashing n boiling
2) sleeping bag costs the same amount as thermawrap the main problem I can see is mould inside the bag with condensation
I've considered camping mats but I'm struggling to find um cheap enough (I've looked in local pound shops etc) Plus my pans 50 cm s high most would leave a small bit exposed.
I'm then planning to wrap the whole lot in a boiler insulation jacket. To really ensure no heat loss.
so what are your thought s on this any other suggestions. Cheers sean

Re: thermawrap or sleeping bag
I use thermawrap, I have it on permanently and stuck it to itself with thermawrap metal tape (more for the look of it than anything), you can also use velcro strips though if you need to take it off - I've never had the need to.

Is your s gas powered grumpy Dev does it go right to the base
Re: thermawrap or sleeping bag
No, I use induction - you probably don't want to be setting it on fire if you use gas

Yea I've got open flames to contend with that's the biggest problem with leaving something on
Re: thermawrap or sleeping bag
Sleeping bag - open gas burner - close together - drinking whilst brewing - ring 999 now.

I'd obvistly take the bag of whilst there's fire
Re: thermawrap or sleeping bag
Having something on while its heating up is pretty much the point, unless you're doing BIAB, as the insulation helps speed things up when heating. If it's just BIAB you're worried about then you don't need anything fancy, just shove a load of towels over it - removable thermawrap for that is overkill imo.

It's outside grumpy and 100 litres... so gotta keep the heat in some how
Re: thermawrap or sleeping bag
As long as you keep it clear of the bottom couple of inches you should be fine with thermawrap on the pot with the flame on, you could always wrap the bottom bit with flame retardant tape - it does make a big difference to heat up time if you insulate the pot.
