Punk IPA BIAB

Post by alexlark » Tue Jun 02, 2015 6:31 pm

Brewed this on 11/04/2015. I'm half way through the keg and everytime I have a pint of it I'm amazed how nice it is, and I mean really nice! To anyone thinking of doing this clone, trying all grain or brew in a bag - Get stuck in!! Honestly, this stuff is great

Which recipe did you use, or was it a grain kit from Worcester Hop Shop or Malt Miller or similar?

It was the original recipe off the Malt Miller. I had all the hops so just followed that and used Safale US-05. I'll get the recipe on here later. It's a good recipe as you can do 2 batches with a set of 100g bags of hops.

So did you scale it using a calculator or did you just run with it

I've scaled other recipes for BIAB and the amounts were so close that I just went with this one. The risk I took was that it might have been over or under bitter but it was spot on. Can't argue with more hop flavour and aroma! :D

Now I've got Beersmith I would plug the amounts in just to make sure I wasn't way off.

Yea I was looking at the one for sale on malt miller and plugged the numbers thru biabacus and it reckoned I needed extra grain and hops if I did it as a 38litre batch but I reckon and I'm happy with a slightly lower abv but I may do a mini sparge good luck with your brew

I've scaled it using BIABacus (can send you the file if you want). The quantities work out fine, make sure that ‘VAW’ is filled out as 21.84 litres under section D and it should all line up correctly.

Mine turned out at 6.2% but it doesn't taste like a strong beer as the hops really balance it out well. It's a creeper after 2 pints though!

I wouldn't mind putting together a clone of DB. It's not a bad pint in Spoons. Reasonable price too :D
