Plumbing a SS IC - CLUELESS!

Hello all,

I received this IC for my birthday last weekend:

I'm excited to use it this weekend when brewing to hopefully streamline my brew day a little. There is one issue however. It comes with US hose fittings!

Now, despite being an engineer, I am completely and utterly clueless on anything pumbing related. Can anybody here point me in the direction of what I would need to connect some hose to this?!

soften your garden hose in hot water and slide on without their fittings, use a jubilee clip or 2 to secure.

Easiest is as Ciderhead suggests. But if you fancy easily disconnectable hoses ...
I've googled "US garden hose fittings" and the pictures it gave me of IC's with those fittings did look very like male and female 3/4" bsp jobbies. If they are you could get these

and then you could just use standard hozelock connectors. It would probably be worth taking the IC to your local branch and checking to see if they fit before buying?

Have the same IC as you. I picked up these plastic connectors for the local garden centre. Hosepipe clicks onto one, hot outflow from the other.Standard Hozelock connectors fit them

Hi all,

A quick thanks for the information, after knowing some terms, a quick google satisfied my curiosity about the BSP fittings so I've ordered a couple of those. I'll pick them up on the way home from work, and report back with results!

So, update!

The BSP threads didn't fit! turns out after a little more investigation that BSP threads are aparently 11 threads per inch and US standard is 14 (Or thereabouts I think) so the threads don't align!

My next question then, can I basically buy the UK version of the US fittings on my IC? i.e. are there some brass bits I can screw(?!) on which will then take standard "hozelock" quick connects?

Possibly the simplest thing for you (I've not tested myself) would be to get two of the Hozelock tap connectors, and put those onto your chiller. There are two models, one for larger taps (2177) and one for smaller (2176). Make sure you get the small ones, or you might not be able to tighten it down properly!

You can then put the standard Hozelock female fittings onto your hoses, and click into place when required.

Oops I feel guilty now sending you out to waste your money on them!

Are there british versions - yes
My IC used 3 parts to get to where you want to be - A compression reducing fitting to tighten to the pipe, a 1/2" to 3/4" bsp converter to change the compression fitting thread from 1/2" to 3/4" then the hozelock tails you've already got.
My IC was homemade using 8mm tube, yours looks to be 10mm but the principles the same.
BUT .........Before I waste any(more) of your money check the SS tube diameter is it 10mm?

this will fit a 10mm tube and leave a 15mm compression fitting, take off the 15mm nut and olive and screw on

This'll leave you with a 3/4" thread on your pipes, then attach the hozelock adaptors
