Replacement boiler lid

Post by JamesF » Tue Aug 11, 2015 10:31 pm

I've been looking for a temporary lid for my boiler because how I want things set up now is not how they'll be long-term and I'm not at all convinced that I'll be able to use the same one for both.

I know some people have used acrylic from pictures I've seen posted here. I was a bit shocked to find that I can buy a piece of stainless sheet that would do the job for about 75% of the price of a suitable piece of acrylic though.

Unless I can think of an alternative fairly quickly I think I'll cut my existing lid and either bolt a bit of 316 plate over the top if the hole is unused later on, or turn it into a "late hops door" so I don't have to remove the lid and get blasted by steam.

I don't know what make your boil kettle is, but if it's a bergland pot. I'm sure they do replacement lids. But wouldn't know if it would be cheaper

Edit : also nisbits sell lids separately, but again would one fit your pot?

Good point. The diameter I need is quite large but there might be something that would do the job.
