So you have the, the bottom dump, the racking arm, a side temp, a side sample & the large blow off top then.

Re: Unicorns spotted in North Norfolk!
Basically yes, but I think the front one is the sample port and the side is the thermowell port. The front one is too high for the thermowell as it is in front of the coil. I have fitted a few bits to it now to see how it looks and to get me familiarised with it all. Apologies for the dazzling.barneey wrote:So you have the, the bottom dump, the racking arm, a side temp, a side sample & the large blow off top then.

I am getting very jealous looking at your set up, looks awesome!! Can I ask how you plan to heat using the coils? Would that be using a water bath in insulated container or small vessel with element and temp control? I would love to have a shiny one but not sure on the heating/cooling aspect as I have now using a brew fridge which is rather straight forward.

Re: Unicorns spotted in North Norfolk!
Brew fridges work really well but something this size would require a larder fridge an as there are two the space becomes constraining. The answer to your question arrives today. Barneey has converted a couple of Maxi 110 units for me. They both have a heating unit in them controlled by a hacked STC 1000 that will enable a degree of programming for the temperature profile I choose for each brew.Rhodesy wrote:I am getting very jealous looking at your set up, looks awesome!! Now just have to move the sample ports from the top to their proper place on the front and hope no one noticed.![]()

I like the sound of that, is a shame these things are not available easily to purchase, I am self confessed useless at DIY electronics. I think I will upgrade so a shiny conical in the future, thankfully have a larder fridge though will need to make the support a tad stronger. Looking at your set up however is making me want to upgrade more than just my FV. Next purchase will be a shiny modded MT I reckonorlando wrote:orlando wrote:Brew fridges work really well but something this size would require a larder fridge an as there are two the space becomes constraining. They are good, but then you will want a RIMS/HERMS set up for mash temp control, the affects of mash pH will have you buying a decent pH meter, then of course there will be oxygenating the wort and a pure O2 set up hoves into view, and if you're going this far how about getting a Beer Engine and some pins, Oh! and a big freezer to make into a keezer so you can drink beer at cellar temps all year round and, and ,and.............Rhodesy wrote:

Re: Unicorns spotted in North Norfolk!
Already made the step up to RIMS, have a larder brew fridge and also a chest freezer as a conditioning chamber. As you say it is a slippery but thoroughly enjoyable slope. Kegorator or Keezer I think will come in the not too distant futureorlando wrote:They are good, but then you will want a RIMS/HERMS set up for mash temp control, the affects of mash pH will have you buying a decent pH meter, then of course there will be oxygenating the wort and a pure O2 set up hoves into view, and if you're going this far how about getting a Beer Engine and some pins, Oh! and a big freezer to make into a keezer so you can drink beer at cellar temps all year round and, and ,and.............Rhodesy wrote:

Re: Unicorns spotted in North Norfolk!
Do you produce beer to sell or just personal consumption ?
If it's just for you that's a hell of a homebrew setup.

Just me, well I say just me because somehow it isn't just me that ends up drinking it all, funny that.

Thought you might be interested to see how the lid works once fitted out with the "T" doing duty as a blow off tube and to hold the temp probe.

Re: Unicorns spotted in North Norfolk!
Update to this question arrived Friday.Rhodesy wrote: Can I ask how you plan to heat using the coils?

These Maxis have had a "heat stick" added and an STC fitted to control them and the Maxi's cooling job. The in and out ports are then connected to the coil using JG fittings (would like stainless if anyone knows where I can get them). I have a couple of microwave oven brackets which they will sit on above the conicals. The silver fitting to the right of the STC is what the temp probe plugs in to.

This shows how they will hook up.
