I am toying with the idea of converting my HLT to a temperature controlled mash tun. Having seen lots of videos of Braumeisters and Grainfathers in action I thought I might be able to replicate the stepped and recirculated mash that these machines do, but for a lot less money.
My thinking is to move my false bottom grain filter from my mash tun to my HLT, control the temperature via a 30A STC 1000 and re-circulate the wort using my solar pump.
I have ordered an STC 1000 already, but don't think the temperature sensor that comes with it will be suitable for monitoring the mash temp.
I was hoping that some of the more knowledgeable guys on here could point me in the right direction in terms of a temperature sensor that would do the job properly and link directly to the STC 1000.
If it's not possible to do it like this then please feel free to tell me so.
If it does work, it will still be a bit hands-on in terms of temp adjustments and switching on or off the pump, but hopefully will allow me to do away with my 3 vessel set-up and move to a two vessel scenario.
Cheers,

Re: Temperature Probe
Thanks Secla, I saw them, but wasn't sure if they were compatible with the STC 1000. Are they a straight fit, because they would be ideal?

I can't say 100% but that's what I'm going to be getting when my 30amp stc turns up from china
