I filled the airlock halfway and keep finding that about half of that has been pushed out on to the lid due to the force of gas escaping.
I'm worried that all the water will be pushed out leaving the tub vulnerable to air getting in and infecting the cider?
Any advice appreciated
How much liquid to put in the Airlock?
Re: How much liquid to put in the Airlock?
So long as some is in there all is ok, some people use cheap vodka as a double deterrent
Some people don't use them at all, some brewers have open fermentation casks and seem to do ok, so long as the carbon dioxide doesn't get blown away, the brewing process protects itself to a degree
I use a tight lid and a airlock with cheap vodka, when doing a ditches stout the pressure of all the foam being produced forces lid off but airlocks don't seems to vent the pressure, so better off with just a loose lid and a bigger bucket to catch the spew
I think all the time the brew is producing CO2 there is no chance of air getting back in, I wouldn't overly worry
