Any Home Brew Shops In Newcastle upon Tyne?
Hi - New on here and this is my 1st post. Im just getting started with this home brew malarkey and have started assembling some bits of kit from various online shops. Been looking for a local shop and I cant seem to find one in Newcastle which surprises me - any Geordie's on here know different?
Hi Stringy Bob & welcome to the forum.
I know I'm far from a local, being down here in Essex. But I used to visit Newcastle a few years ago.
I did find one place in Newcastle called Gemini. They are at 14 Shakespear Street, just off Grey Street. Smallish place that mainly seemed to sell Arts & Crafts type stuff. But it did have some home brew supplies. Not a massive stock, but most of the essentials if you get stuck for something you need quick. Yeast, Steriliser etc.
Obviously you're not that far from Hop & Grape in Darlington. There was another place I found, much better stock than Gemini, I think it was in Houghton-le-wear if I remember correctly. I forget the name though.
I'm sure a local to you will be along very soon to point you in the right direction though.

There's Elderberry Homebrew in Station Road, Whitley Bay, www.elderberrywineandbeer.com , don't know what the shop is like as I've never used it.
I think Jim found that Gemini place in Newcastle had closed and is now is a hairdressers, last time he visited.
The hbs in Houghton le Spring is still there but very poorly stocked imo.
Your best bet is to get on the A1 and drive to Darlo, it'll only take you 30-35 mins and go to Hop and Grape on the A167 (North Road) www.hopandgrape.co.uk , all you could possibly want and more, from kits to professional all-grain stuff, he's got the lot. They do mail order as well.

Elderberry Homebrew in Station Road, Whitley Bay is an excellent home brew shop with a very helpful owner Alan Gough a National Wine & Beer Judge.

Hi Stringybob, Ill also endorse Elderberry, great shop, use them often, but i never take plastic as the mrs goes with me and i would end up spending loads a money. By the way, cheers for the gas bottle. Alan Gough is a cracking bloke. If you do go ask him for a sample of his home made whisky, its SPOT ON.

another vote for Elderberry, Alan always has time to answer your questions and make suggestions. Then nip round the corner to the Rockcliffe for a beer.
Re: Any Home Brew Shops In Newcastle upon Tyne?
and another thumbs up for Alan at Elderberry here.
I visited the shop a couple of weeks ago and Alan spoke to me as if he had knew me for years. Very helpful and very competitive prices

I have thought for a while that there is a need for a Homebrew shop in Newcastle area but again confirm the Elderberry although small can provide lots of what you need, it is 10 miles from where I live. Alan is indeed a font of all knowledge and lot of the Microbrewers around here started because of advice rom him.

Re: Any Home Brew Shops In Newcastle upon Tyne?
Wilko in Newcastle town center have a limited home brew supply. All the others closed down. I'm surprised that there isnt one more local than Whitley Bay to be honest. The cost in juice to get there is probably just a little less than the postage from online shops.
Nothing's forgotten, nothings EVER forgotten...
Re: Any Home Brew Shops In Newcastle upon Tyne?
Gateshead is closer to Newcastle than Whitley Bay as am sure you know
