Re: Grain Storage
just be prepared to leave the ex mango chutney barrels out in the air for a few weeks to help remove the last residue of whiff even after a vigorous clean too
nowt worse than opening your 25kg store of brewing grain on a valuable brewday to be met with the sour odour of mango chutney

Re: Grain Storage
Just had the mango barrel back. Cracking quality! Just a slight whiff of mango chutney, thought it would be worse to be honest. Bit of a soak in bleach and job done.

Re: Grain Storage
double check it, bang on the lid and leave it 24 hours and pop the lid for a double check sniff..
I hope im proven wrong, but mine while clean did retain some pong post cleaning, closing it tight will concentrate any residual smell for easier detection.

Re: Grain Storage
Cheers Fil, yea will do. I've soaked it in bleach and given it a good scrub and rinse with oxi. It's in my shed with the lid off now. Im in no big rush so I'll let it air for a few days. Excellent quality for the price though, wish I went for these first time instead of buying new. One very minor thing I noticed, there is no gasket in the lid so it's not perfectly air tight. I'm going to put a bead of silicone in the gap where the gasket should go and let it dry fully, that will work perfect for grain storage.
Re: Grain Storage
I've just ordered my self a mango barrel so I'll report also on how it goes.
