Thermo Pot & Blichmann FB

Post by IronBlue » Tue Dec 29, 2015 5:41 pm

First run with the my 60L Thermo Pot and Blichmann FB today. My pot has an internal diameter of 398mm and the Blichmann FB turned out to be 402mm, thankfully I have a mate who has a machine shop in his garage! I've used 5/8 beer line as the 'gasket' and it works a treat.

The pot is also converted for bottom draining and recirculating with a solar pump.

Quite happy with the result!

Yeah I know, I read all of the posts on here before buyIng it and was hoping for a simple life. The diameter of my Blichmann was 402 and my pot is under the 400. It wasn't even close. We had to drive an angle grinder around it taking 3mm off all round.

Worth it though, great piece of kit.

Mmm that's ARPITA to reduce by 3mm all round, I have just checked the website and it should be 400mm for the button louver so maybe the pot diameter has changed slightly from 4 years ago, useful to know. Nice bit of kit the blichmann stuff though.

You would have been better getting the FB from Mark at Mr Lard. No need to go to all the hassle of fettling, and probably about the same price. Looks nice though. =D>

Errr Yes. Marks craftsmanship is second to none. I have one of his, and it fit perfectly, works a treat with no stuck mashes. Doesn't get better than that.

I would say either as they both do the same job, the plate is not filtering the wort. That is the job of the grain bed :)

I've used both perforated SS plate and the Blichmann. I get a lot less grain through the Blichmann and it takes about 10 seconds to clean it.
