Y-strainer basket removable?

I just got this to protect my mag pump. Is the basket part supposed to be removable?

if it is its on tight...

Undo the nut and the mesh filter will pull out for cleaning.

Here shows you how @ 0:19, be careful to ensure you have the mesh tube fully seated both in the strainer body and the cap otherwise you will buckle it when tightening the cap down.

Thanks, I thought that's how it should work.

Problem is I just can't get the bugger off. I'll see if I can find a mate with a vice and a bigger wrench...

It will come off eventually, I battled with mine for ages, nearly took my thumb off when the mole grips slipped off too!

My version had a fine mesh as well as a strainer, eventually I removed the fine mesh as it got blocked too easily, you only need to filter out big bits.
