Corroded Kettle Element

Post by legion » Wed Mar 09, 2016 11:44 pm

Hi,

Would it be safe to use this 2750 Watt Kettle element which corroded whilst sitting in a box with my copper hop filter? The corrosion can be seen in the pictures below.

I think its probably nickel coated and there have been concerns about Kettle Elements causing nickel poisoning to tea drinkers.

Many thanks,

Nickel and boiling water is what the elements were designed for. Nickel and hot acidic wort in my opinion is not a good combination. Better to use stainless elements. I found the nickel gradually wore away with use on my elements.
