Coopers Canadian Blonde with Cascade 8.6AA
Coopers Canadian Blonde with Cascade 8.6AA
Going to set this up today:
1 x Coopers Canadian Blonde
1 kg Youngs Brew Enhancer
60 g Cascade boiled for 15 minutes
Brewed to 23l (6 US Gallons)
IBU of the brew should be about 47
OG is 1042 so this should come out at around 4% ABV.
Could anyone give any positive or negative comments on my Hop Load and target ABV please? 4% is fairly low for this type of beer perhaps?
The Citra I have just kegged will be 5.2% ish so I was thinking a more session Cascade to go beside it in the kegerator would be a good idea...
Thanks
Matty

hi matt this is my opinion the abv is what it is [ when its done its done ] it comes out what ever it will be , sorry to sound blunt but i never take a hydrometer reading ive never been that anal about matters . as for the hops cascade 50 or 60 g 15min boil sounds good another little hop tea of maybe 30 or 40 g before bottling or kegging or maybe dry hop [ which i prefer ] good luck mate

soon be dead thank beer for that no pain where im going

I probably wouldn't aim for such high IBU'S in a kit brew with an OG of 1.042.
You might find it a little over bitter, as the dextrose in the BKE will thin the brew out a bit and kits don't exactly offer much malty sweetness to balance the hops.

You could keep some Cascade for a dry hop? How many IBU do you get from Cascade for 15 minute boil?

While they don't go quite as low as 1.042 a lot of brewers in the U. S. seem to be big on "session IPAs" that are a lot lower in O G but just as hoppy as regular IPAs.Monkeybrew wrote:I probably wouldn't aim for such high IBU'S in a kit brew with an OG of 1.042.

That's exactly the sort of info I was after

Re: Coopers Canadian Blonde with Cascade 8.6AA
Mattboy, I've done a Coopers Blonde with 25g of Galaxy hops AA 13%, boiled for 20 mins then tea and hop bag added to the FV. I did this with 1kg Youngs BE and 454g of Lyles Golden syrup. It ended up 6.5% so not exactly the session beer you're after but my tasting notes were: Very nice light ale, very palatable, very drinkable. Which translates to, I probably ripped through the lot and got hammered off it.

Well this has been in keg for about 2 weeks and has started clearing nicely.
Taste is light and crisp with plenty of grapefruit zest on the nose.
Not that bitter. I could have used more hops I reckon - maybe 100g
Should be even better after another couple of weeks
Next a Coopers "Draught" with 25g Citra and 50g Cascade brewed to around 5%
