Pub casks at home: my thoughts so far
Re: Pub casks at home: my thoughts so far
Interesting read, I have a few casks that I use, 2 are stainless from Crusader and the other is a Theakston wooden pin. By far my favourite dispense method.

If you buy one of the Christmas pins...yeah. Otherwise no, you will have to try and find a cooperage.

Without patience, life becomes difficult and the sooner it's finished, the better.

Send an enquiry to Theakston about the Christmas pins and they will add your name to the list, I believe they contact you around November time with a newsletter email, it is about 70 casks a year that are made and a £60 deposit is applicable for the cask meaning you can either keep it, or return it.
Total cost is £135 including the beer, you can wait until mid January to enquire about buying an empty cask that has been returned.

I've signed up for this, not sure if I'm more excited about buying the beer for Xmas or having the cask afterwards!
I'm assuming a standard cask breather can be fitted to keep it a bit longer - I don't really fancy having to tank the whole lot in a week

It can and if you look towards the back of the cask you will see an adapted gas regulator helps you to keep just a blanket of CO2 over the beer that doesn't carbonate it. The regulator allows enough gas to replace the volume of beer drawn off only.Donald wrote:I've signed up for this, not sure if I'm more excited about buying the beer for Xmas or having the cask afterwards!
