Connectors - Cam & Groove, Tri Clamp or other?

In a system with flexible hoses, if the outlet hose can be lowered temporarily (sufficiently for gravity to pull liquid through), then the pumps can be primed that way too, as an alternative to the bleed valves. The former was my preference, as it introduced one less thing to clean on the hose (which was also used post-boil), but it may not be everyone's choice because it can be more prone to drips and dribbles.

I have been quietly ignoring quick disconnects. It's bad enough trying to choose between two systems, with out having to think about a third...

I found bleed valves placed on the outflow vital on all pumps.

I know nothing about bleed valves, got a link to something suitable...?

Yes, it would appear for a bit of googling, that people seem to use a t piece and and two ball valves on the output to accomplish this. Time to go update the big spreadhseet of fixings, again...

I think I'm well on the way to that! First attempt was to build a brewery on the cheap using EcoKeg carcasses. It didn't go well, so I'm trying to do it properly this time...

My personal order of preference with connectors would be:-

1) Tri-clover (clamp) = 10 points
2) QD = 5 points
3) Gaffer Tape = 3 points
4) Sellotape = 1 points
5) Chicken = 1 points
6) C&G = 1 points

In order of the strongest seal

1) Tri-clover (clamp) = 10 points
2) C&G = 5 points
3) QD = 3 points
4) Gaffer Tape = 1 points
5) Sellotape = 1 points
6) Chicken = 1 points

In order of appearance

1) Tri-clover (clamp) = 10 points
2) Tri-clover (clamp) = 10 points
3) Tri-clover (clamp) = 10 points
4) Tri-clover (clamp) = 10 points
5) Tri-clover (clamp) = 10 points
6) Tri-clover (clamp) = 10 points



So with a very scientific personal analysis, tri-clover still wins, by a country mile.

Results
1) Tri-clamp = 80 points
2) QD = 8 points
3) C+G = 6 points
4) Gaffer Tape = 4 points
5) Sellotape = 2 points
6) Chicken = 2 points

Given that C&G is really designed for high pressure gas systems, I'd be surprised if Tri-clovers provide a stronger seal...

So are Cam & Groove and Quick Disconnects liable to leak? Doesn't that rather defeat the point of them?

It is possible to argue over subtleties wrt triclamp and camlock seals, but IMO they are both very good - perhaps in part due to their simplicity. More than sufficient for most homebrewing tasks - I've never had either leak (though to be fair, I only took up with triclamps quite recently).

I tried a few QDs of various kinds and personally don't rate them quite as highly for reliability, though they can't be beaten for convenience, so swings and roundabouts IMO.
