hop plant calamity

Well we finely had a 8 hour window without rain so i fired up the BBQ and got the family over for charred meat .
After a few cornies worth of homebrew we all ended up playing tag and dodgeball with the kids in the garden.
During the general melee one of my hop plants came a cropper and was severed.
Its now just a stalk a few inches sticking out of the ground with no leaves. Will it recover, will i see some growth. My hops are new plants so all i was hoping for was that they established themselves this year and built up a decent root system for next year, has that been totally scuppered??

I'd say it'll be fine if the rhizome wasn't hurt. What might become a problem is waterlogging so you might want to lift it into a pot until next year. It's a perennial so shouldn't it die back in the winter anyway? Make sure it's a clean cut with no tearing so as to reduce the risk of fungus/pests etc.

Essentially plants are quite amazing things that will make a damn good go of it given the minimum of conditions. The power of a plant to regrow from what seems like a dead stump is often underestimated. And hops do grow fast when they get going. Good luck!
