Demise of Hop and Grape

As this shop has closed does anyone get the grain from a supplier that can crush to order? Ihave a Braumeister and prefer a slightly coarser grind for better efficiency but as far as I know suppliers tend to crush finer

The Malt Miller will crush specifically for a BM if you add a note on your order.

I just saw the other post and facebook link.
Seems they posted friday night that they will be closed until further notice.
I was in there on thursday. All appeared as normal, except that John was there, I hadnt seen him in a couple of years.
Thats a shame, I enjoyed shopping there.

Competition is fierce though, and I must admit I haven't bought anything from Hop and Grape for years.

One thing I liked them for was that you could buy small amounts of grains from them down to 50g or so. For me that was handy for some dark malts that I don't use very often and don't want leftovers lying around for months.

Just emailed them to see if they have gone for good - certainly hope not.

I do know they weren't making any money and the business has been up for sale for several months. They had some initial interest but when I was last in there (late May) it hadn't come to anything with no-one else in the frame.

Will be a real shame if they have gone as I got all my grain from them - often at short notice, and they were always very helpful.

Yes they were helpful, even though I only ever bought online from them. They stocked some things that many others didn't too. It will be a real shame if they have gone, or if there is some other sadness behind this.

I bought some wine equipment recently from them (online), what I did notice was alot of items were out of stock which is sometimes a sign.

And just thought, that's where I got Halcyon malt from. Don't know anyone else that stocks it

I'd spoken to them in late November last year about getting a new pan (out of stock according to the web site) Told me then they weren't anticipating ordering any in as the business was going on the market.

No reply to my last email so fairly sure that's it!

Am trying a supplier in Leeds as I'm only 15 minutes away when at work. Haven't been in the shop as yet but from what I've gleaned so far they don't carry the variety of grains etc that I'm used to and it's also more expensive than H&G - still cheaper than MM etc however when you add in delivery.

We'll just have to see how we go.

Didn't know that Jim, at least we've still got a few local-ish home brew shops in the area. Shame about Hop & Grape though.
